High heels paired with a kaftan? Why not. The fact that when it comes to fashion Morocco has more to offer than just the ethnic look is being proven by designers like Karim Tassi and Nouredine Amir. They both live and work in Marrakech – the North African metropolis with its medieval old city and colourful (hippie) past. This is where an international gastro scene meets with traditional tajine cuisine and where historic bazaars can be found just a stone's throw away from cool concept stores. Beyond the gates of the city, however, in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, it's definitely advisable to wear flat shoes. J'N'C paints a portrait of a magical place, where Orient and Occident collide.

What's new?
"It was very important to me to retain a transparency as a brand." Designer Jason Denham talked to us about glass walls, the '5 Years in the Making' book to mark the fifth anniversary of the Amsterdam cult label that bears his name and the 'First Jeans in Space' project.

"The trend is still heading very much in the direction of quality and fashion with a certain handmade character and sustainability. At Woolrich we pay particular attention to the longevity of our products." Read more of what Andrea Canè, creative director of WP Lavori in Corso, had to say in our interview.

Between modesty and glamour: The denim market is arming itself – despite or precisely because of the crisis – and earning extra marks in 2013/14 with its purist dark denim as well as with elaborate patchwork and 3D styles.

Plus:
Is fashion experiencing an innovation backlog? In 'Fashion and Technology' Fredericke Winkler explains why the fast-moving business sometimes needs what seems like half an eternity to get up to date with the latest technology and how closer cooperation with the sciences could benefit fashion.
Gerlind Hector argues the case for biotech cotton – together with the non-profit organisation Cotton Council International.

What else?
The outfit speaks for itself: in order to properly set the scene for a fashionable autumn/winter, J'N'C took itself off to Chinatown, amongst other locations, for this issue's fashion shoots – weighed down with the finest denimwear in their luggage.
And that's not all: there are also 48 street style shots from London to Paris and 4 short retail portraits from Copenhagen to Seoul.
