Vintage boutiques are an integral part of the shopping landscape of big city centres – some, because they are cheap, others, because they're sure to stock the perfect outfit for a bad taste party and then there are those that pay homage to jewels from the past. Located on a side street of Rue Oberkampf, the vintage shop Casablanca offers an unrivalled selection of fashion from the 1930s to 1960s.
The store is a treasure trove for men and women alike: in first-class condition and not just at impulse purchase prices you'll find a huge selection of trench coats, blouses, skirts, trousers and shoes. I couldn't take my eyes off the Humphrey Bogart coats. You could spend hours here. The clientele at Casablanca are extremely varied – according to a regular customer who is browsing next to me, at Casablanca you're just as likely to meet lovers of nostalgia as you are stylists.
Najat, a qualified costume designer, opened the store in 1996 and named it after her place of birth. "This boutique is my passion" whispers the very charming lady, who unfortunately didn't want her photo taken, between two puffs on her cigarette.
