'Lucretia' by Cranach - with lingerie added by Veronique Branquinho
Cranach, Giorgione, Raphael and Dürer. The sensual depictions of women by the great painters of the Renaissance were the inspiration for the Belgian fashion designer Veronique Branquinho who has designed a capsule collection for the Belgian lingerie label Marie Jo L'Aventure.
The result is a feminine and elegant collection that wallows in the atmosphere of the fifties whilst dispensing with sugary romance by retaining clean cuts. The colours, emerald green and onyx black, are also borrowed from the colour palettes of the Old Masters. The series, made with elastic net lace, microfibre duchesse and plissee, is available from mid-September 2011 in lingerie stores.
The design process was also unusual: the graduate from the Royal Academy of Antwerp and creative director for the leather goods label Delvaux painted lingerie from her collection onto reproductions of the Old Masters. In October the MoMu Fashion Museum Antwerp will be exhibiting her work, which will subsequently auctioned for charity.
