You can’t fail to notice the tongue-in-cheek hints at the United States of America: the ‘XXL’ glasses by Mykita were the key accessory at the Bernhard Willhelm menswear show for the spring/summer 2012 season in Paris.
The designer didn’t invite his guests to one of the city’s countless historic venues, but to a Mercedes Benz luxury car showroom and sent his models down the catwalk wearing stars & stripes and garments featuring striking 100% and XXL designs. A sort of crazy American Sportswear taken to the extremes, showing brightly coloured cartoon references. Perhaps the Mykita glasses give their wearers superpowers? Only models have been able to find out so far: at the moment they’re still exclusive showpieces to complement Willhelm’s collection – in gold, silver and bronze.
