The newly founded Hamburg-based label 'Witty Knitters' represents finest cashmere fashion, made from exclusive yarns, whose mix and fineness is developed by head designer Jutta Schweiger herself. The collection is far from traditional, unlike the luxurious yarns, playing with brash colours and surprising details like leather patches and ajour-knit rabbits.
The rabbit is inspired by the Alice in Wonderland fairytale, where Jutta Schweiger didn't just stop at getting inspiration for her knitting designs: both stores on the island of Sylt, as well as the new shop in Hamburg's dockland area, which will be opening its doors in mid-September, look like a piece of wonderland: oversize lamps in the shape of top hats dangle from the ceiling, the floor is tiled in black and white checks and birds fly along on the golden wallpaper.
Playing cards, mirrors and doors painted in deceiving Trompe l'oeil style beguile the shopper and offer a suitable backdrop for the autumn/winter collection, which, as well as the knitted items, also includes leather jackets and leather accessories.
This label is definitely a witty knitter...and Alice would have loved the elegant and carefree cuddly cashmere products.
