US-American multi-talent Vincent Gallo is the new face of the G-Star Raw 2011 autumn/winter campaign. Together with British actress Gemma Arterton he posed in front of photographer icon Anton Corbijn’s camera lens in the port of Marseille.
Gallo, who was born in 1961 in Buffalo, New York is not only an actor, but also an independent filmmaker, musician, artist, businessman and Grand Prix motorcycle racer. Together with Jean Michel Basquiat he was known as an important member of New York’s No Wave underground art scene and as an artist for his radical street performances at the end of the 70s and beginning of the 80s. Later he acted in films including Kusturica’s “Arizona Dream” and Coppola’s “Tetro”.
He made a name for himself as a director in the 90s with the two US independent film gems “Brown Bunny” and “Buffalo 66”. For both films he not only played the leading roles, but also composed the film music and wrote the scripts.
And in the words of Shubhankar Ray, Global Brand Director of G-Star RAW: “Vincent is unorthodox, authentic, imperfect and raw – all characteristics matching G-Star’s DNA. We are happy to have an independent trailblazer and cultural artist like Vincent as our new face.”
