Since the mid-eighties Maison Martin Margiela has been producing a limited edition charity AIDS T-shirt. The colours and the contrasting typo change each season – but the motto of the T-shirt remains the same: “THERE IS MORE ACTION TO BE DONE TO FIGHT AIDS THAN TO WEAR THIS T-SHIRT BUT IT’S A GOOD START”.
However the slogan isn't legible because a part disappears inside the T-shirt, encouraging curiosity and debate.
One year ago Masion Martin Margiela modified the concept: The charity T-shirt is now only being produced once a year, but in a different language each time. After Japanese comes French. The strictly limited version is available from 01. December, World AIDS Day, exclusively in Martin Margiela stores and in the Margiela e-boutique. Part of the proceeds continue to go to the French NGO 'AIDES'. To date, 750,000 euros have been raised through the sale of the charity tees.
