OniQ is the name of the novel fusion of car and sneaker, and is the result of a design collaboration between Japanese sneaker label Onitsuka Tiger and the Berlin-based iQ Store. The compact city motor from Toyota iQ was provided with three new looks. Legendary sneaker models from the Kobe-based label, Mexico 66 and Ultimate 81, served as inspiration for the design of the small four-seater.

The training shoe classic Mexico 66, in black and yellow, was developed in the run up to the Olympic Games in Mexico 1968, and was not only the first shoe to sport the now world-famous tiger stripes but has also made appearances in the most diverse cult films. Martial Arts hero Bruce Lee wore the kicks as well as Uma Thurman in Kill Bill.

Onitsuka's Ultimate 81, a pioneer of the early eighties jogging craze, served as the role model for the two other designs. The colouring and dynamic of the sneakers was translated to the car and is recognisable in elements like the red and chrome-coloured foil-coated windows.

Marek Polewski from the Berlin-based design office Floor 5, is responsible for the creative implementation of this design collaboration. The three OniQs can be admired as of now in the iQ Store Berlin in the Stralauer Allee 44.
