Dutch jeans label G-Star Raw has grown rapidly over the last few years with new store openings in the world's biggest metropolises – from Tokyo to New York, Sydney and Los Angeles. And on Tuesday another location was added to the list: the world's largest G-Star flagship store covering an area of 528 square metres in Hong Kong.
And it goes without saying that in a city with a population of seven million this occasion had to be celebrated in style. G-Star Raw organised a colourful evening incorporating a mix of art, music, film and fashion, with the label's core philosophy of unexpected combinations taking centre stage. The opening party began with a traditional Chinese lion dance, while stuntmen and women walked vertically down the building's façade. After this dramatic show, refreshment was provided in the form of Champagne Crushers served by Grammy-nominated singer Skylar Grey from America and Asian singer and actor Aaron Kwok, who both later treated the audience to live performances inside the store. And last but not least, the latest collection was presented in an unexpected and interactive show, which visibly entertained guests like Gracie Otto and model Alexandra Agoston from Australia.
And as if all of that weren't enough, G-Star Raw opened its touring exhibition "Raw Art Series" on the very same evening, which will be on show in Hong Kong for the next four weeks. It takes denim to another level in terms of craftsmanship by putting it into another context as an art object.
