Thinking of Design in Brazil most people’s association only go with one name: Oscar Niemeyer. But the South American country offers much more. To prove that you can read the next issue of our J'N'C magazine 02/2012 with the São Paulo cityguide and visit the ‘Brazilian Design’ exhibition which starts today at 7pm at ‘Stilwerk’ in Berlin.
For the first time modern and contemporary furniture highlights are presented at the same place. Among the 80 presented pieces are some highlights, such as the Three Feet chair (1947), by Joaquim Tenreiro, the founder of the modern period in Brazil, or Rodrigo Almeidas (2006) ‘Africa’ chair, and last but not least the until now unsighted sideboard by José Zanine Caldas. And surely you will find a piece made by Oscar Niemeyer. His famous chaiselongue ‘Rio’ and the less known ‘Praiana’.
The largest and most important exhibition ever held about Brazilian design in Europe can be visited until 5th of May 2012. And we warmly recommend their website brazilianfurnituredesign.com with many background information.
