Under the title 'Rave is over' the Gestalten Space in Berlin, located in the Sophie-Gips-Höfe, is showing two projects by Berlin-based photographer Martin Eberle. With his legendary “Temporary Spaces” in the nineties Eberle documented the club scene of a reunited Berlin, which was characterised by an array of ephemeral and nomadic establishments.
Many of these clubs moved from location to location, others merely consisted of a fridge and a trestle table with two MK2 DJ consoles and stayed open as long as the drinks were still flowing. The accompanying photo book was published ten years later by an institution for lovers of visual publications – the Gestalten Verlag, which is also based in Berlin and has an affinity with the German capital’s club culture.
The “After Show” project, which was started in 2004, no longer shows places, but people. With a large-format camera Eberle started taking photos of Berlin musicians like Peaches and Miss Kittin directly after their concerts. He managed to capture moments of excitement, exhaustion and excess with his static and precise shots.
A selection of photographs will be on show until 7 August at Gestalten Space, Sophienstraße 24, 10178 Berlin. Our tip of the day!
