In the history-charged halls of the Alten Münze Berlin, where at the beginning of July (Capsule) and the Projektgalerie Showroom resided, the internationally acclaimed exhibition 'Nomad Two Worlds' will open on 20. August, in cooperation with the renowned Berlin gallery Camera Work. The art project, entitled Nomad Two Worlds was initiated by the Australian fashion photographer Russell James together with indigenous artists from Australia, Haiti as well as from Native American communities.
And after shows in New York, Los Angeles and Melbourne it is now showing for the first time in Europe. The common thread of all the artwork is the combination of James' unique shots of the breathtaking Australian landscape, a few of the most beautiful women in the world as well as celebrities like Hugh Jackman, with cultural characteristics from the music and art of the indigenous population.
For the first time in Berlin, work will be shown by Russell James in cooperation with Haitian artists like Pascale Monnin, Debreus Lherisson, Reinold Clerisier and Philippe Dodard. Together with the Clinton Global Initiative and Donna Karan's Urban Zen Foundation, Nomad Two Worlds travelled to Haiti, in order to support the local artisan community after the devastating earthquake in 2010.
A significant element of Nomad Two Worlds in Berlin will be an entertaining intercultural supporting programme. Musical performances, inspiring film screenings and educational initiatives will compliment the exhibition. In this way the exhibition visitor can experience various traditional currents within indigenous cultures in the fields of art, music and culture at first hand.
