Last Thursday Berlin multimedia artist Marc Brandenburg celebrated the opening of his new exhibition in the 032c gallery in Berlin-Mitte. Brandenburg is mainly renowned for his delicate graphite-on-paper drawings, which have the look of photo negatives. His motifs are scenes full of power and excesses – whether cheering crowds in a football stadium, political protests or media-hyped celebrities. He uses found material as well as original photographs, which he mostly borrows from the mass media.
To mark his current exhibition Brandenburg has brought out a white unisex T-shirt in a limited edition of just 60 which features the famous YSL portrait of Jeanloup Sieff – of course in Brandenburg's typical pencil sketched style. It costs 50 Euros. "Yves' legendary nude portrait, taken to his own specifications by Jeanloup Sieff, was an absolutely modern and confident picture that embodied the homosexual man," says Brandenburg.
The gallery spaces of 032c are accessed via a flight of steep and absolutely spectacular concrete stairs. Awaiting you there is Brandenburg's work, which will be showcased in a long vitrine with fluorescent lighting until 3.12.2011.
