This evening the group exhibition GIF.ME.BERLIN is showcasing a series of animated GIFs, out of their online context for once, at the .HBC Kino in Berlin. And if you were racking your brain to remember what we mean by GIF, here’s a reminder: GIF is the animated image web format from the pre-Flash era and works with individual images layered one on top of the other like a digital flip-book.

The event kicks off at 7 pm in the cinema hall of the former Hungarian Culture House at Karl-Liebknecht-Straße 9. Exactly the perfect setting for the photo films, which are currently bridging the gap between retro and futurism. The examples on show tonight were created by Berlin-based photographers, bloggers and artists.

Initiated by Berlin lifestyle blog iHeartBerlin.de and online magazine smart-urban-stage.com, the GIF.ME. BERLIN spectacle also has plenty to keep the nerds happy. Like the first ever mechanical GIF player by Pieterjan Grandry and the GIF photo booth by Loopcam, which allows you to create your own GIFs directly at the event. And DJs Eliza Foxxx, Hara Katsiki and Kolmer will be stepping up to the turntables at the subsequent party.

Find more information under the official Facebook event. From tomorrow you will be able to see all of the exhibits online at iHeartBerlin.de and smart-urban-stage.com.
