Green Showroom: Bigger is better

The official announcement was made a few days ago – with immediate notice the Green Showroom will be hosted by Messe Frankfurt. This was a good excuse to ask Magdalena Schaffrin, who alongside Jana Keller is founder of the eco-tradeshow, a few questions about the present and future of the event.

Magdalena, when you came up with the idea for the Green Showroom in 2009 your plan was to take the concept to an international level. Now you have Messe Frankfurt on board as a partner, are you closer to achieving this goal?
Yes, I think so. From the outset we had planned to establish the Green Showroom in Paris and New York, as well as in Berlin. As a team of two, however, this proved to be an almost impossible task: but together with Messe Frankfurt we now hope to be able to finally turn our plans into reality.

The next Green Showroom will be taking place from 6 – 8 July. Can we expect to see anything new?
Our concept will remain exactly the same as before. We will continue to use the Hotel Adlon's suites as showrooms and present the highlights of the collections in a catwalk show. Our Green Showroom shop, selling limited collectors' items, will also be making a comeback. In addition to this we will also be welcoming the Ethical Fashion Show, which has belonged to Messe Frankfurt for one and a half years. So there's a lot to look forward to.

Tell us what that will be like.
The Ethical Fashion Show will be presented on the same floor, in larger and separate rooms. This has more of a tradeshow flair and is less informal than in the suites.

Your concept is to present ecological or sustainable high fashion. Does the Ethical Fashion Show fit in with that?
Yes, definitely. The Ethical Fashion Show is a perfect extension of our offer because there are barely any overlaps. While we take care of the fashion the Ethical Fashion Show will be showing labels from the casual and sportswear sector.
