The Ethical Fashion Show, platform for fashion, beauty and accessories with a clear conscience, is taking place from 1 – 4 September in Paris for the eighth time. The exhibiting labels have to fulfil one or more of six criteria: production with organic raw materials, use of recycled or natural materials, commitment to fair trade or social projects and the preservation of a traditional production method or know-how. In addition they have to make all production steps and partners of their supply chain transparent.
Set up in 2004 by Isabelle Quéhé from France, the trade fair has quickly developed into a firm fixture on the fashion calendar. Since 2010 the several-day events have been under the direction of Messe Frankfurt, which also took over the helm of the Green Showroom this year. During the recent Berlin Fashion Week this meant that it was possible to show a spin-off of the Ethical Fashion Show parallel to the Green Showroom in the Hotel Adlon.
Around 100 fashion, accessories and interior design labels are exhibiting in Paris. One that really attracted our attention is Deux Filles un Fil, which makes foldable bags from recycled leather. There is also a first-class schedule of supporting events including workshops, conferences and fashion shows. For example the discussion panel on the topic “Luxury vs./and Solidarity”, in which names including Jan Liska, Operations Marketing Manager at Shiseido Europe, and Christian Sanchez, Head of Social Development at LVMH will be having their say.
