Florence is not only a source of fascination due to its rich cultural legacy, it is also one of Italy's most important fashion locations. In addition to Botticelli, Michelangelo and da Vinci, Gucci, Cavalli and Pucci are also some of the city's famous personalities. But it's not just design that has a long tradition in the picturesque city on the River Arno: the manufacturing tradition can also look back on a rich heritage. Century-old craftsmanship, by leather tanners and cloth weavers in particular, still forms the foundation for a flourishing fashion scene – which is kept alive with the bi-annual Pitti Uomo. And our 'Cool Cities Florence' special is proving that in addition to the big names like Ferragamo, Gucci, Luisaviaroma and Gerard, the city also has quite a few unconventional shop concepts waiting to be discovered. We met up with Daniele Davitti, the youngest professor in Italy, Filippo Fanini, who has just launched a high-end fashion label, and Linda Loppa, a well-known name in the field of fashion education, who following her stint in Antwerp is now bringing fresh input to Florence's Polimoda.

Today is the last day of Modefabriek, what are your impressions so far? Otti: We had two very good days. There were a lot of new clients and in Holland we are already fully booked. Even our new sneaker line Fretons, which started three seasons ago, got a lot of positive reactions. The brand is growing but Shabbies Amsterdam is still our biggest brand.

Today is second day of Modefabriek. What is your impression so far? We had a good fair. On Sunday it is always busier. People stay the whole day and like to socialise a bit more. Monday is always a more professional day where the bigger shops and department stores come in. We are happy with the Modefabriek. We have already been at Modefabriek for many years and with different brands that we represent. This is our second time with Hamaki-Ho and we will definitely be here again next time. What is special about Modefabriek? It is the whole atmosphere. It is great that the booths are open. Nothing is inclosed and everybody just walks around and sees which collections are interesting. It is not like other international fairs where it is not allowed to go inside the stands. Orientation is so much easier here. It is also a bit more low-key, I guess, but with a lot of good brands and a very professional level. For us everybody who walks around is interesting, press as well as customers. it’s also nice that everything is focused on two days.

Yes you can!
