Margot ‘Arctic Sea’: Definitely not a sailor’s yarn

Thursday, 16 June 2011
margo-arctic-sea-1

Sea anemones, shells or even ancient diving bells? For her A/W 2011 collection the Hamburg designer Jessica Schröder is diving into the depths of the sea, figuratively speaking at least. Her hand-crafted necklaces and headpieces are inspired by the scientific and, at the same time, decorative illustrations of maritime flora and fauna, drawn by the German biologist and philosopher Ernst Haeckel around the year 1900 for the book ‘Art Forms of Nature‘.

Erwin Wurm: New reading material

Wednesday, 15 June 2011
erwin-wurm-wear-me-out

We've already recommended the exceptional exhibition by Austrian artist Erwin Wurm in Antwerp's Middelheim Museum a couple of times over the last month or so. His extremely popular and often ironic work, such as his 'One Minute Sculptures', don't have much in common with the traditional concept of art. For all those who can't get enough, we can recommend the art book entitled "Wear Me Out” which has been published by renowned publishing house Hatje Cantz.

Long blonde hair, sweatband and tennis racquet: 30 years after his legendary successes on the court, even the most obstinate sport haters and under-40s will be familiar with the Swedish tennis icon Björn Borg. If you were out and about in Düsseldorf’s city centre last Saturday, you would have been able to meet the seventies sporting legend a whole nine times. To commemorate Germany’s first store opening in Düsseldorf’s Kö-Galerie shopping mall, nine Björn Borg doubles, scantily-clad in Björn Borg underwear, were in action from morning to evening.

Diner-en-blanc-1_1

Berlin, Gendarmenmarkt. As if from nowhere masses of people – completely dressed in white – suddenly flock to the square, laden down with tables, chairs, tablecloths, food and drink. If you belong to this circle of the chosen few – former participants and their friends – shortly before the start on Saturday evening at 7pm you would have received information about the location via a closed Facebook group. It quickly became clear that this year’s Dîner en Blanc would be taking place at the Gendarmenmarkt.
